A Basket of Songs
May 14, 2020
Dear Friends of Village Fire,
Just as the full grandeur of spring arrives and would seem to be readying the plants and creatures for our grand reunion under the sun and moon to sing their praise...
...here we all are, at our separate homes in one giant cocoon, wondering what we are becoming, calling in social courage, calling in the songs we need.
For seven years, Village Fire has created itself through us and set its seeds in us. We are scattered, yet held together by memory and vision that are carried in song.
Village Fire has a gift for you, something to comfort and inspire during such a time of separation. We have collected songs from among many of our songleaders and put them into a basket for you! May they help us remember who we are together and may they live in your households and communities. Friends, the songs are alive and they need us as much as we need them. Give them breath and life!
Thank you songs, song makers, and song carriers, for helping us to hold our collective care and vision.
Also included in this basket are:
- - Ideas for where you might share some money, if circumstances are such that you have any to share: with Village Fire, with some of our songleaders, or with other organizations recommended by some of our songleaders.
- - Links to online singing circles that some of our songleaders are hosting during these days of unravelling.
We make a bit of beauty, and then we let it go. We raise up our songs, and then they are off to the stars, gone until we breathe into them again. We pound the last nail into the ship, and then we set it to sail. Once again it is the time to begin, time to create another heartfelt gift to life, a humble offering in thanks for this chance to be alive in such a world.
What will we dream next?
What will we build next?
What will we sing next?

'Little bird flew around in the field,
flew around in the field, looked through the grass.
Looked through the grass, seeking her falcon
--Oh you bright falcon, oh my beautiful love
You take me too lightly, like the moon with the hill
Like the moon with the hill, the fog with the valley
Like the fog with the valley, like the kozak with the girl.'"
